LOOK: ARIANA GRANDE To Be Recognized First Honorary Citizen of Manchester
A proposal to constitute Ariana Grande an official citizen of Manchester is in the works.
Ever since the tragic attack that killed 22 people and left 220 others swounded occurred earlier this month, Ariana Grande has done so much to unite the citizens of Manchester and help the victims rebuild their lives. And now, she's slated to become the first honorary citizen of the City after she raised millions of money from her star-studded One Love Manchester concert.
According to a report by The Guardian, the town hall officials themselves proposed to give the Ariana Grande the recognition for her "great many selfless acts and demonstrations of community spirit" in the aftermath of the tragic event.
“This seems a fitting moment to update the way we recognise those who make noteworthy contributions to the life and success of our city," said Sir Richard Leese, the leader of Manchester city council.
"We've all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May, with love and courage rather than hatred and fear," he continued. "Ariana Grande exemplified this response. I think many people would already consider her an honorary Mancunian and we would be delighted, if the council approves the proposal, to make it official."
#OneLoveManchester concert raised a total of £3m or ?189,345,900.
