MYXclusive: THE MAINE Extends Their 'Bazooka Rocks V' Set For Filipino Fans!
Indoor rock music festival Bazooka Rocks returned this year for a massive pop punk weekend throw down at the Skydome. We just witnessed the “D-DAY 1” of the two-day affair to #DefendPopPunk and it was explosive as expected, headlined by no other than the Arizona-based band The Maine.
The John O'Callaghan-fronted rock act is no stranger performing here in the country. These pop punk heroes performed here a good number of times already in different venues and every time they come visit, they always have something brand new to offer to their loyal fans. Their last visit in the country was back in 2015 when they opened for All Time Low and were promoting their album American Candy. This time around, they’re back promoting their critically-acclaimed record Lovely Little Lonely released last April.
The Maine’s performance at the Bazooka Rocks V: A Pop Punk Weekend last night was topnotch and probably their best yet.
Fans arrived early at the venue and even brought roses in support of the band’s lovely aesthetic. The band opened the show with “Lovely” and their single “Black Butterflies and Déjà Vu”. The crowd quickly went wild and started singing along until the song’s outro.
It was followed by “Am I Pretty?” and “Like We Did”, as John O encouraged everyone to put their phones down and just enjoy the next songs that they will play. He even climbed the large speakers near the stage. Luke of the band With Confidence, who obviously was enjoying the show, snapped a photo of it.

Talk about showmanship during live sets.
They also played an extended version of “My Heroine” after the catchy “(Un) Lost”. The crowd favorite 2015 single “English Girls” made the show even wilder. John even chewed roses brought by a fan in front of the stage. Even before the show, Filipino fans requested for The Maine to play “Raining In Paris” thru social media and they were granted. A lucky fan also got the chance to join the band onstage to sing one of the band’s “emo” songs, “Girls Do What They Want”!
Everyone thought the show was over after the band played mainstay songs in the setlist “Diet Soda Society”, “Do You Remember? (The Other half of 23)”, and the hits “Bad Behavior” and “Another Night on Mars”. But the show last night was too lovely to just end that way. Because of the very overwhelming passion of the jam-packed crowd chanting “We Want More”, the band did an impromptu encore show and told the crowd that they only did it here in Manila. The Maine members surprisingly showed up topless as they performed “Ice Cave”, which is originally not on their setlist.
Before leaving the stage for real this time, the band said that they’ll come back once again in the country soon.
Lucky VIP ticket holders also got the chance to experience warm hugs from The Maine during the meet and greet session.
Cambridge, With Confidence, and State Champs will rock out on the second day of the #BazookaRocksV.
Meanwhile, here’s the setlist of The Maine’s explosive show last night.
