LOOK: JOHN MAYER Says His Song "Never On The Day You Leave" Is Too Painful To Perform Live

Posted at August 16, 2017

During his recent interview with SiriusXM Radio's The Highway, John Mayer opened up about the story of his song "Never on the Day You Leave" from his latest album The Search For Everything. He admitted that this heartbreak song is about his personal experience with an ex-lover and is still too painful to perform live. And for John, he doesn't think he can, for now.

“There’s a line in there that is so brutal because it’s so true. And I can’t play the song live because I don’t think I’d make it through it. Like I haven’t played the song live. I don’t think I can. I don’t like to think about it. There are times you don’t want to think about the song.", he expressed.

Not just that, he shared that it only took 20 minutes for him to write the song, yet it took the singer-songwriter days for him to sing and record it… without crying.

“Every time I sang that line, I would cry in the middle of that line,” he recalled. “It took me days and days and days to be able to sing that line, for the record, and get through it without crying.”, John Mayer stated.

John Mayer is currently busy on his The Search For Everything Summer tour.
