Mariah Carey ended 2016 making headlines for the wrong reason - a terrible live performance on New Year's Eve.

Even though she seemed to shake off her New Year's Eve lip sync fail, the diva's representatives are claiming that the production team of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve set up the fiasco for higher ratings.

According to TMZ, Mariah's team believes that Dick Clark Productions "sabotaged" the perfomance as the singer claims, "she and her team repeatedly told production people the earpiece was not working but they assured her it would be fine when she got onstage and performed. It did not."

“She was not ‘winging’ this moment and took it very seriously....A shame that production set her up to fail," the singer's PR representative Nicole Perna said in an interview with Billboard, also denying the lip-syncing issue, "It is not uncommon for artists to sing to track during certain live performances...Any allegations that she planned to lip sync are just adding insult to injury."

Dick Clark Productions has issued a lengthy statement on the New Year's Eve trouble with Mariah totally dismissing the allegations, “As the premier producer of live television events for nearly 50 years, we pride ourselves on our reputation and long-standing relationships with artists. To suggest that DCP...would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd."

"In very rare instances there are of course technical errors that can occur with live television, however, an initial investigation has indicated that (Dick Clark Productions) had no involvement in the challenges associated with Ms. Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance. We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry," the statement continued.
