Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman has passed away after a four-year fight with colon cancer. He was 42.

The sad news comes as a huge shock to most fans who were unaware that Chadwick was diagnosed with colon cancer back in 2016. Aside from the Marvel films, the actor went on to appear in several movies during that period and "all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy," according to the statement posted on his Instagram account. "⁣It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther," it also read.

"He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time."
