NIKI Ushers In ‘Moonchild’ Phase 2 With Intimate Ballad "Lose"
NIKI has said that her debut album MOONCHILD is her "most diverse and wide-ranging body of work so far." That has been very evident in previous releases—the icy synth-pop "Switchblade" and the hauntingly seductive "Selene". And for the third single, the Indonesian artist takes listeners into Phase 2 of the 10-track album's sonic allegory.
According to a press statement, "Lose" tells the story of NIKI's turbulent relationship with her creator The Moon. "Their mystical connection and strong emotional bond make the separation between them a difficult battle," it read. "Through 'Lose', listeners experience NIKI’s battle betrayal, as she ultimately loses her light as she faces tension for The Moon (a representation of NIKI’s heritage and homeland)."
In an Instagram post, NIKI detailed the making of the intimate ballad. She said "Lose" was recorded in one take to no metronome. "What you hear now was exactly how it was first recorded," she shared. "Everything was kept & unchanged: every breath, every imperfection, the push-and-pull rapport with the piano."
MOONCHILD is due out September 10th.
