Last July 31, Darren Espanto and Jayda dropped their first-ever collaboration "Sana Tayo Na" - a song previously recorded by the latter's dad Dingdong Avanzado in his 1993 album Coming of Age.

"This is a song my dad wrote. He wrote it 27 years ago," Jayda shared in our MYXclusive interview with the talented duo. "And ever since then, parang hinahanap niya yung tamang mga tao na kantahin yung kanta na ‘yun kasi he’s always envisioned it as a duet."

She added, "But then almost a year ago, my mom (Jessa Zaragoza) just kind of randomly brought it up over lunch, and she thought, 'Ano kaya kayo kumanta ni Darren nito?'"

The new version was produced by ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo and Jayda who handled the vocal production aspect. According to her, the idea was to incorporate a Gen Z approach while retaining the classic OPM feel.

A couple of days before the surprise drop of their duet, Darren and Jayda tweeted the song's title "Sana Tayo Na" to each other. The cryptic exchange surprised even their closest friends like Francine Diaz, AC Bonifacio, and Kyle Echarri. "It’s funny though that we didn’t realize that we didn’t share it with anyone else," Darren quipped.

As for more collaborations in the future, Jayda said: "That’s something that we would really like to do. This was really a fun experience, like working together after wanting to work with each other for quite a while. But of course, I think it would be really nice as well to maybe even write something together." Until then, watch our entire MYXclusive interview below:
