Fil-Am Rapper SAWEETIE Shares Her Favorite Things About The Philippines
"I can eat Filipino [food] all day, all week, all year and not get tired of it" was our favorite Saweetie declaration during our MYXclusive interview.
Asked what her favorite dishes are, the Filipino-American rapper mentioned four from the top of her head: sinigang ("I like it the fish way, not the meat way!"), bistek, adobo, and lumpia. And not only does she love them, she already knows how to cook!
Aside from the local food, Saweetie also confessed to loving Philippine beaches. In fact, "I always tell everyone: My first Sports Illustrated, my first bikini shot has to be in the Philippines, on a white sand beach."
The "My Type" hitmaker - whose mom is of Filipino descent - has already been to Manila, Boracay, Cebu, and Palawan. She's raring to go back and explore more of the country soon. Watch VJ Ai and VJ Anton's full MYXclusive interview below:
Recently, Saweetie released the music video for "Tap In" which is set to appear on her upcoming album Pretty Bitch Music. "I felt like it was 'My Type' but on steroids," she said of the new single. "[It] has an underlying message of tapping into things that you care about whether if it’s beauty, fashion, social issues, voting. It just has a plethora of meaning. When I say tap in, it goes beyond just turning up."
Saweetie also opened up about inspiring change among her fans. "I felt like it is my duty as a Black woman, as a Filipino woman, as a woman who’s of color to stand up for our rights and to make a difference in our community," she said.
"If I have the ability to do so then I should take advantage of my platform to educate, to make sure that it’s not only me, but also my fans are making a difference in our communities."
