These 5 Dogs From Korean Dramaland Will Lift Up Your Mood!
As you sit on your desk waiting for your next online class on a humid weekday morning, it’s hard not to reflect on how things can get pretty depressing now. With so much going on around us—politics, the health crisis, the distance and isolation from the world—there’s little room for a breather as the endless cycle of thoughts whirl around your head.
But, as we all know, taking a break is a must. A few minutes off social media to check out ASMR videos is a good option, while a soothing cup of tea or hot chocolate comforts a burdened body. But our best choice of repose? What else, but a warm hug from our cuddly, furry babies!
It’s been proven that having a dog in your household can calm a weary soul—spending some time with your canine friend can lower anxiety and blood pressure, as well as increase levels of ‘feel-good’ chemicals serotonin and dopamine. Isn’t it such a therapy whenever your dog squeezes in some hugs and kisses? Their cute faces and undying love send us on an instant happiness truck!
Another form of stress-reliever especially for the Korean-crazed society that we now live in is—you guessed it—binge-watching on K-dramas for hours on end! And since we’re big on self-care, we urge you to slow down and bring these two happy pills together. How about going on a watching spree with dogs in it?
Have a break after a week’s worth of busy studying and curl up with your favorite oppas and their cute dogs from these shows! IRead on!
1. Reply 1997
The fangirling moments of Sung Shi-won, played by Apink’s Jung Eun-ji, in “Reply 1997” are literally gold—the obsession over our idol groups is something we can all relate to! But the adorable interactions with her childhood bestfriend Yoon Yoon-jae, played by Seo In-guk, are nothing but memorable. In their high school days, Shi-won likens Yoon-jae to a puppy, which urges the boy to search for one that looks exactly like him. Eventually, he succeeded in finding his furry lookalike!
2. Chicago Typewriter
Who wouldn’t fall in love with this Sapsali featured in “Chicago Typewriter?” A dog breed indigenous to Korea, its name means “one who wards off evil spirits”—which perfectly captures its role in the show! Go Kyung Po’s Yoo Jin-oh possesses this dog to get close to lead characters Han Se-joo (Yoo Ah-in) and Jeon Seol (Im Soo-jung). The scenes with the dog and the main cast are too adorable!
3. While You Were Sleeping
Jung Hae-in with a dog—need we say more? As if having him alongside leads Lee Jong-suk and Bae Suzy isn’t enough, “While You Were Sleeping” blesses us more with this cute Welsh Corgi named Robin in the series. He’s the companion of the 32-year-old actor’s character, the police officer Han Woo-tak. Robin will charm you with his nice—and naughty—moments throughout the show!
4. Uncontrollably Fond
Another actor-and-dog tandem that you can’t miss, “Uncontrollably Fond” brings a rockstar in Kim Woo-bin as Shin Joon-young who’s emotionally attached to his pet dog. And who wouldn’t fall in love with this white and grey sheepdog with the sweet name Pororo? Certainly all of us!
And finally, the last (but not the least!) in our list of the cute and cuddly in Korea dramaland. He may be little, but this white puppy snuggling with Park Shin-hye’s character, the neurosurgeon Yoo Hye-jung, is too cute for words! He’s definitely stolen the spotlight during his scenes in 2016 drama “Doctors.”
