BENJAMIN KHENG On Filipino Fans During Concerts: "You Guys Set The Bar"
Singaporean singer Benjamin Kheng did not just gush about his friends Ben&Ben during our MYXclusive interview. The 29-year-old artist also shared a life-changing experience he had while performing in front of a Filipino crowd.
In 2016, Benjamin and his then-band The Sam Willows got to open for Little MIx during the Manila leg of the British girl group's Get Weird Tour, and later on, performed in a mall show. "Man, you guys go hard at concerts. I feel like you guys set the bar," he told VJs Ai dela Cruz and Dani Mortel.
"At the time when we played, we had never been to Philippines before. If anything, we had a very small internet fanbase," he recalled. However, he was taken by surprise when the concert crowd "busted out dance steps that [the band] never knew were possible, and everyone knew the lyrics and they had signs and everything."
And that experience, according to Benjamin, "really changed my perspective on how to support my friends on music that I love. And it’s to really just be passionate about it."
"You guys really support with everything, and I think that was so infectious to just witness honestly."
Benjamin recently released his debut solo EP A Sea That Never Stops. And maybe once travel and concerts are allowed, he could fly to the Philippines to promote the record and relive that feeling of performing in front of his Filipino fans.
