TIHTUS Recalls Immediate Impact Of Songwriting Sessions With RAYMUND MARASIGAN
Ilocos Norte-based band Tihtus has come along way since starting in 2013. The four-piece group—comprised of Michael Abalos, CJ Ardan, Ryan Castro, and Salus Tiedra—has gone on to sign with Sony Music Philippines to cater to a larger audience outside the North, and it proved beneficial as we get to be blessed with nostalgic tracks from the guys from time to time.
Their latest single "Chase", a song that inspires and gives hope to every loving heart, hiding in the shadow of friendship, serves as a reminder of how Tihtus can transport their listeners to pop bliss through substance-free psychedelia.
Michael promised fans that they will work on a proper music video for the track once the world heals from the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the interview, Michael, who writes the band's songs, also shared how being mentored by OPM legend Raymund Marasigan during the 2017 FILSCAP (Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, Inc.) Songwriting Camp refined his skills as a songwriter.
He said: "The inputs na binigay niya and the way na shinare niya pa'no yung songwriting [process] niya, and how they collaborate with others, it's really helpful. And coming from a lot of experience, it gives direction na pag nagsulat ka, dapat may purpose."
The experience had an immediate impact on the band's output so much so that their track "Blinded" was written in more or less a day.
The guys also spoke in length about their day jobs and life outside of their budding music career—which they plan on showing more via a vlog-type video—as well as the stories behind their previously released songs. You can watch it all in our MYXclusive interview below.
