Here's Why #DJLoonyoSTFUChallenge Trended
Social media sensation DJ Loonyo went from being loved for his dance covers to being disliked for his "problematic" comments regarding a lot of issues amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
For starters, the Filipino-Chinese choreographer, whose real name is Rhemuel Lunio, found himself trending for all the wrong reasons in early June after sharing an inaccurate take on COVID-19 mass testing in the country. Loonyo later issued an apology, explaining that he was actually referring to clinical trials.
But not long after, he was again at the center of a social media firestorm after another clip showed him making more controversial statements - including his belief that wearing masks for prolonged periods is like inhaling your own fart - which didn't sit well with many people especially actress Lauren Young.
Omg i just saw this!! Ang bobo shet ang bobo. Flatearther ka rin ba koyah?? https://t.co/HBpuEOvwef— Lauren Young (@loyoung) June 4, 2020
I feel like in the case of Loonyo he really just wants to sound smart but lacks the patience to sit, read and understand. Gusto lang magkaroon ng opinion for the sake of it? Mapakita lang yung bigdickenergy. Like LOOK AT ME IM SMART.— Lauren Young (@loyoung) June 4, 2020
If you thought that was the end of it, #DJLoonyoSTFUChallenge started trending after Loonyo's latest statement earned the ire of netizens for spreading "toxic positivity".
