SONNY PARSONS Of HAGIBIS Dies At 61
Sonny Parsons, who carved a name in the Philippine entertainment scene as a notable member of 70s male group Hagibis, passed away today. He was 61 years old.
According to reports, the singer-actor (whose real name is Jose Nabiula) succumbed to a heart attack while riding a motorcycle in Lemery, Batangas. His daughter Nicole Villarama Sta. Maria confirmed the news in a Facebook post.
Parsons became a household name during the Manila Sound era in the 70s and 80s alongside fellow Hagibis members Bernie Fineza, Mike Respall, Joji Garcia, and Mon Picazo. The group gained iconic status with their macho image and catchy hits such as "Katawan", "Legs", "Nanggigigil", and "Babae". He also crossed over to acting and appeared in various action films.
