‘Twilight’ Author To Release New Novel From Edward Cullen's Perspective
Stephenie Meyer, the author behind the best-selling Twilightseries, has announced a companion novel to the franchise called Midnight Sun. It will be a retelling of the first novel of the series from vampire Edward Cullen's perspective.
The news comes 15 years since the first book in the saga was published and 12 years after the manuscript for Midnight Sun was leaked online. From 2008 to 2012, the novels have been developed into five movies—Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn: Part 1, and Breaking Dawn: Part 2—starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
In a statement per New York Times, the author explained her decision to release the book: "I thought seriously about delaying this announcement until things were back to normal. However, that felt wrong, considering how long those who are eager for this book have already waited."
She added: "I know how much I personally need distractions right now, how much I need something to look forward to, and most of all, how much I need more books to read. So, I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and, after it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while."
Midnight Sun will be made available in hardcover, large print, e-book and audio editions starting August 4.
