IV of Spades steps out of their comfort zone to explore new creative pursuits, even shooting their latest MV teaser with a smartphone
For some artists, they dream of fame. For others, they aspire for something deeper - to be understood and to create meaningful music that resonates with fans. Because that is their ultimate goal – to use their passion and talents to inspire others.
In the local music scene, one of the bands that is definitely living out their passions is IV of Spades, a band composed of Blaster Silonga, Zild Benitez, and Badjao de Castro.
With their unique and nostalgic taste in music, groovy sense of style, and great personality as a band, they have truly impressed both fans and musicians alike. Their music has for years dominated the local charts, channels, and even award shows.
But just like any artist, it’s good to change things up every so often to keep the music sounding new. “We always try to listen to different kinds of music,” the band shares. “I think letting the music create itself subconsciously is a way of keeping it honest and keeping it fresh,” they nod.
To ensure that what they produce is of more sincere intentions, they also try to detach themselves from their music once done. “We want to avoid feeding our own ego,” they explain. Quoting the esteemed novelist and screenwriter Raymond Chandler, “There is no trap so deadly as the trap you set for yourself.”
The band is currently working on a new album, but the release date is still under wraps. But if their new single is any indication, their new work is on an exciting path of creative confidence and bold leanings. “There are a lot of things that we didn’t like after creating the first album. So with this new effort, we wanted to outdo ourselves.”
The music video, Sariling Multo (Panaginip) was recently released on April 17. And it is a beautiful narrative of how one stays connected despite physical separation, an apt message in these trying times. “Our single is about hoping to pause a moment to escape all the fears,” they share.
“It also speaks a lot about empathy,” they continue. “Self-isolation is tough for some people, and I think this is the time when we should empathize more with the people around us, to help people who are in need, and to talk to a friend. We are all connected.”
Pushing themselves even further artistically, they took it upon themselves to film the teaser to their new music video using the OPPO Reno3 Pro, one of the two latest offerings from the OPPO Reno3 series. And the result is a stunning and bold visual capture that reflects the group’s edgy personality and evolving sound.
On why they decided to collaborate with the brand, the three ambassadors share: “We wanted to challenge ourselves creatively by shooting with a smartphone. It's really different working with a whole crew, but it was a fun experience. “
For the shoot, they utilized the smartphone’s unique features to bring their creative vision to life. Shooting in low lights wasn’t a problem as the Ultra Dark Mode allowed them to capture vibrant scenes under neon lights with vivid clarity. In addition, even as they hopped from scene to scene, diving into the fun of the moment, the OPPO Reno3 Pro was able to keep up, providing 4K for high definition video quality output that’s at par with the film quality of professional production houses. “What we particularly loved was the stability feature for the video. It was really smooth, and the final output looked great,” they added, impressed by the Ultra Steady Video Pro feature of the modern mobile. From video to photography, the images are equally stunning, with the OPPO Reno3 Pro boasting a 44MP Ultra Main Camera with 2MP depth sensor.
For budding digital creatives, the OPPO Reno3 is also perfect creative tool as well for young artists to be able to fully express themselves without limits. Reno3 is equipped with equally stunning camera features such as 48MP Zoom Quadcam, 8MP Ultra Wide Lens, 13 MP Telephoto Lens and 2MP Mono Lens. The Reno3 also promises photo quality that’s so crisp with the Ultra Clear 108MP Image feature. Additionally, Reno3 champions on the selfie game as it offers a 44MP front cam with an Ultra Night Selfie Mode on top of the main camera’s Ultra Dark Mode feature. Lastly, for those who are always out and about, the Reno3 series adopts the VOOC flash charge technology through the latest VOOC 3.0.
