9 Inspiring Efforts from K-Pop Fandoms Against the Pandemic

No one is more committed than K-pop fans. And that "commitment," along with the feels and loyalty, isn't only limited to the idols that they stan, but also for the people they share that same commitment with - the whole fandom. It's like how the famous High School Musical slogan goes, "We're all in this together." So together that they even work for a cause!

Yep, fandoms do that, and that's just one of the many things that they can be unapologetically proud of. It's very apparent now especially with the coronavirus pandemic that we are currently facing. So much for giving back to their faves, here are some of efforts fandoms are doing in the Philippines:

Filipino fans of the global phenom are putting merch on sale such as stickers, tote bags, pins, and temporary tattoos that resemble Jungkook, and all the profits will go to health sectors in the country that are fighting against COVID-19.

BLACKPINK's fandom sought monetary donations from their mutuals to make a Food Drive possible. The meals will be distributed to the people of community currently affected by the quarantine including the street vendors and security guards.

3. EXO's Phixos

Instead of holding a big celebration for EXO's anniversary last April 7th, their fans from the Philippines allocated their resources by launching a crowdfunding which aims to aid frontliners and hospitals with food package and other necessary supplies.

4. GOT7 Ahgases

Keen on prioritizing children, fans are participating in an initiative dubbed as Piso Per Day Donation Drive where the money collected will be used to provide kids with milk, diaper, and vitamins.

5. BTOB Melodies

Be it in kind or cash, BTOB stans ask for donations that are intended to help health volunteer groups, recently in Region 9,  and send them personal protective equipment: disinfectants, face shield, mask, gloves, protective suit, and boots.

6. ASTRO's Aroha

This fandom is making it beneficial to both the group and those in need through a raffle giveaway of their special anniversary album One & Only. Anyone who will retweet and like the post, share a proof of streaming two official music videos of Astro, and at least donate 50pesos can make an entry.

7. SHINee's Shawols

Whoever is interested to lend a hand can donate to one Filipino fan, a University of Santos Tomas alum, who, amid the pandemic, is giving out food packages specfically to the people of Tondo.

8. Seventeen's Carats

PH Carats are also accepting orders of on-hand goods - acrylic standee, photobook, phone case, etc. - to amass money that will solely be granted to the Philippine General Hospital Medical Foundation to assist their COVID-19 operations.

9. Super Junior's ELFs

Open to Filipino and international members of the fandom, ELFs have launched a fundraising campaign in order to help UP Medical Foundation, Inc. develop more testing kits so medical frontliners can accommodate more patients and provide them with PPEs.

The outbreak has led a number of K-pop events to get cancelled but that didn't stop stans from doing the good deeds. And you thought they only exist for screaming purposes? True, they do scream positive impact. Keep making your idols proud, guys!
