Sony Unveils First Look At Playstation 5 Controller
Sony ushered in a new era in console gaming with the announcement of the highly anticipated PlayStation 5.
The fifth generation video game console introduces several major modifications in its specs and overall look. It also features a brand new wireless controller they dubbed DualSense which Sony revealed via their PlayStation blog.
Senior Vice President for Platform Planning & Management Hideaki Nishino offered fans an in-depth rundown about the new controller. He wrote: "The features of DualSense, along with PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, will deliver a new feeling of immersion to players."
He also added that the new controller draws a lot of inspiration from the fan-favorite DualShock 4. "After thoughtful consideration, we decided to keep much of what gamers love about DualShock 4 intact, while also adding new functionality and refining the design. Based on our discussions with developers, we concluded that the sense of touch within gameplay, much like audio, hasn’t been a big focus for many games."
As for the controller's new and updated aesthetic, Nishino said they went through several concepts and hundreds of mockups over the last few years before settling with the design. "Traditionally our base controllers have a single color. As you can see, we went a different direction this time around, and decided on a two-toned design."
The official release date for PlayStation 5 has yet to be announced.
