Here's How K-Pop Fans Are Stanning Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto
Karen Jane Ng
It hasn't been a year since he brought change in Pasig City's governance, ending a two-decade dynasty, but 30-year-old Mayor Vico Sotto has indubitably proven he's deserving of that mayoral debut with already a fair record of exemplary accomplishments especially during this time of pandemic crisis: personal checkpoint inspection, Anti-Panic Buying and Hoarding Ordinance of Pasig, financial assitance to quarantine-affected PUV drivers, social amelioration vs. fake news, Mobile Palengke, among others.
He's a man of action, indeed, which turns out to be the kind of ideal politician millennials are looking for. Mayor Sotto is giving the youth some hope to look up to, that one day this rigged system we have will be right. No wonder he's collecting supporters, K-pop stans included! And they're working hard to prove that Sotto is the "best gift ever" to people inside (and even outside) of Pasig City. Here's how they're doing it:
1. Fandom name
Who says only celebrities and loveteams can have a fanbase? K-pop enthusiasts are here to prove them wrong by founding Mayor Vico's official fan club VIVICO with combined colors of Turquoise and Peacock Blue. Don't forget the "Ikaw pa rin ang VI-VI-CO" fan chant!

It won't be complete without the "launch" of his first official lightstic, the Vico Bong. Fans also came up with photo cards, hand banner, Seasons Greetings and other merch designs to satisfy your fangirl cravings.

3. Cupsleeve event
This is usually done to celebrate an idol's birthday or a group's anniversary. But considering Mayor Sotto's great works and him coming into our lives alone, fans deserve to hold a gathering specially dedicated to him. The "Virus Ka Lang, Mayor Ako" sleeves are ready, just tell them when and where once this quarantine is over!

Any Stan Twitter user would know this, they've come across some for sure from one thread or another. And brace yourselves because one of these days, you might get to see Mayor Sotto's version rather than a Korean idol because his supporters are putting a hundred percent in creating him the best fancam videos!

AU means the alternate universe sub-genre in fan fiction which K-pop stans love to do. And they have done it with the Pasig City mayor where he is set as an idol star. His photographs were made to seem like it was taken from his debut, fan meet, drama cameo, and one that gives the impression of his first Disptach dating rumor. How convincing!

6. Music show edits. If you're a K-pop fan, you're familiar with music programs like M Countdown, Inkigayo, and Music Bank. Apparently, Mayor Vico has appeared on each for a live broadcast - or at least that's what these edits aim to show us. We wonder what his debut stage was like...

7. Dance video
Red Velvet's "Psycho" got us feeling helpless with no choice but to stan, and Mayor Vico's "dance cover" of it is no different. A fan used his old video dancing to Calvin Harris' "Slide" and put the K-pop girl group's hit over instead. ReVeluvs must be proud.

You can say anything about K-pop fans - loud, crazy, or obsessed. But you can not take away the fact that they know the intellectuals to stan. We hope Mayor Sotto doesn't find these too over-the-top; this is just their simple way of showing how much the younger generation is proud of you, sir. Keep(-pop) getting that bread, Mayor!
