Tabing Ilog: The Musical does not simply emanate a strong sense of nostalgia just because it was based from the 1999 TV series, but also because it tackles real and serious issues the youth are facing nowadays.

Dubbed as "The Tabing Ilog of Gen Z," its story was tailor-made for the youth today, with all the complexities of what it really takes to be a teenager of this generation. The musical now shows the prevalence of social media, smartphones, with the whole world at their fingertips.

But of course, they also face challenges that weren't as widespread in previous generations, broadening audience's perspectives towards important issues like mental health, depression, LGBTQ community, and how important it is to have friends as your support group in staying sane amidst anxiety.

Truly, the core of this musical was friendship, loyalty, and enduring camarederie in a fast-paced world, as seen in the lives of its major characters Rovic (originally played by John Lloyd Cruz), Eds (Kaye Abad), Anne (Paula Peralejo), George (Jodi Sta. Maria), Badong (Paolo Contis), Corrine (Desiree del Valle), James (Patrick Garcia), and Fonzy (Baron Geisler).

We were lucky to witness the musical's exclusive press preview. The new cast features a mix of fresh and veteran talents, including Agot Isidro, Jojit Lorenzo, Joanna Co, Paolo O'Hara, with theater actors Gab Pangilinan, Ian Pangilinan, Vino Mabalot, Justin Narciso, Krystal Kane, Teetin Villanueva, and Franco Ramos.

TV personalities Noel Comia Jr. and Elyson de Dios are also part of the cast along with Pinoy Big Brother and MNL48 stars Kiara Takahashi, Lou Yanong, Abi Kassem, Sky Quizon, Hanie Jarrar, Batit Espiritu, Emjay Savilla, Jem Macatuno, Gian Wang, Gabby Sarmiento, Miah Canton, Abby Trininad, Belle Delos ReyesBrei Binuya, Missy QuinoShawntel Cruz, Ian Hermogenes, Art Guma, and Lie Reposposa

According to the cast, they find their roles challenging but the overall experience rehearsing for this musical was both wonderful and memorable since they treat their group as a bonafide barkada.

Here are VJ Ai dela Cruz's MYXclusive interviews with Lou and Kiara—who shocked everyone with her sweet singing voice and natural acting skills along with Batit and Jem—after the successful press preview of Tabing Ilog: The Musical. The two girls are both new in acting and in theater musicals so let's all find out what their thoughts are about this project!

Truly, this musical is a relevant and captivating drama across generations. Tabing Ilog: The Musical has started its run yesterday and will end on April 26 at the ABS-CBN Dolphy Theater inside the ABS-CBN Compound in Quezon City. Don't miss it!
