RONNIE LIANG Now A Philippine Army 2nd Lieutenant
Singer Ronnie Liang joins the growing list of actors who are now part of the Philippine Army as reservists following the likes of Gerald Anderson and Matteo Guidicelli among others.
In a February 16 report from ABS-CBN News, the "Ngiti" hitmaker talked about finishing his Mechanized Infantry Operations Training (MIOT) under the Armor "Pambato" Division in Tarlac. He is now a second lieutenant of the Philippine Army.
Ronnie revealed that the 2017 Marawi siege prompted him to join the army and serve the country: "Started this 2018 pa, pero wala akong sinabihan. I actually volunteered. I said na gusto kong maging parte siyempre to serve the country, to help the community, lalo na sa panahon ng pangangailangan. Remember Marawi siege? ‘Yun ang nagpagising sa akin na talagang kailangan natin magtulungan as a nation."
He described the military training as "a humbling experience," later adding that despite its challenges, "at the end of the day, iisipin mo na malaki ang maitutulong nun sa character mo and pagmamahal mo sa bayan natin."
