6 Healthy Gift Ideas for Your S.O. This Valentine's Day
Rae Marielle Bayanin
With the novel Corona virus (NCov) outbreak, countries banning flights to and from China, and netizens calling everyone out, it is also worth noting that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. So if this got you thinking what you should get your significant other given all this rough patch we’re facing, today’s your lucky day because below is a list of all the best things one can get another human for Valentine’s.
1. Alcohol and hand soap
Face mask would probably be our top pick if only pharmacies had this item in stock. Since the announcement of the confirmed case here in the PH, everyone else has been trying to get their hands on this medical supply. Lucky for us, we can get a hold of the next best thing — alcohol and antibacterial hand soap.
We use our hands for almost everything: paying the PUV fare, passing someone else’s PUV fare, opening doors, holding onto stairwell handles or escalator railings, and more. We need to keep our hands clean now more than ever. With an alcohol bottles in the pockets of both you and your loved one, you can keep holding hands with a lower likelihood of catching NCov. To top top it off, let your beau know that, NCov or no NCov, you’re with him or her 99.9% of the time.
2. Citrus fruits
Boost your love points by boosting your S.O.'s immune system. Citrus fruits are the largest fruit crops in the world so you have a whole load of fruits to choose from. Believe it or not, vitamin C is an easier option, nothing is better than the real deal, and citrus fruits are the ultimate source of vitamin C.
In fact, studies show that orange has all the vitamin c you need in a day. The best part is, there’s more to citrus fruits that just vitamin C. They are also a great source of fiber, and antioxidants. Add a little fruit pun(ch - strikethrough) when you send the fruits. For example “Lemon show you how much I love you.” If this doesn’t get his/her immune system up, I don’t know what will.
3. Flying Kisses and Virtual Kisses
With the risk of exposing ourselves to the virus, kisses on the cheek and mouth must be kept to a minimum, at least while the virus outbreak reaches a point of slowing down. In any case we have to keep our masks on so kisses on the mouth and cheeks are off limits for now. So how do you throw a little sweetness this Valentine’s? Use flying kisses and virtual kisses as an alternative.
Let your S.O. know that nothing, not even NCov can get in the way of your love. If you want to be extra cheesy, send a special message for every virtual kiss you send so it’s more personal.
4. Pineapple juice
Strengthen your relationship the way pineapple strengthens the human body. We know, we know. Citrus fruits are already on the list, so how come pineapple juice gets its own item number? Unlike citrus fruits, pineapple juice (and your love life) is already sweet that you don’t actually need to add any sugar to drink it.
Plus, pineapple juice is also good for the heart. If it’s good for the heart, it’s always a good Valentine’s gift option, am I right? All cheesy jokes aside, pineapple juice contains so much nutrients that it’s also known to contain anti-agents for cancer, and other major diseases.
5. A home cooked meal
Thanks to the virus outbreak, going out on dates at the mall or any other crowded area is discouraged. So offer a home cooked meal and eat indoors as an alternative to your regular date nights. Missing movie nights in the cinema? Well, you and your partner can always stay at home to watch Netflix and chill.
Home cooked meals + popcorn, now no one can say no to that? Even the family would be into that kind of date idea so don’t blame us if this Valentine’s Day gift idea gets you into your partner’s family’s good graces. You’re welcome!
6. Humor and good vibes
God knows we could use all the positivity we can get with all the toxic banter on the news and with January hitting us blow by blow. We’re barely into February and yet another terrible incident hit the news with the fire in Pandacan, Manila and parts of the Skyway damaged beyond repair.
We know it’s a most-likely given, but keep your S.O. happy. Send him/her anything that could draw a smile — funny GIFs, memes, knock-knock jokes, magic tricks, a funny video, an interesting anecdote, anything to keep each other’s spirits high. We all need it.
As Valentine’s Day fast approaches, remember that what makes the world go round — despite the daily crazies that we experience, is love. Happy Valentine’s Day!
