WATCH: THE 1975 Covers SADE's "By Your Side"

English rock band The 1975 debuted a heavenly cover of Sade's 2000 track, "By Your Side" on MistaJam's BBC Radio 1 show. This marked their first song release since their 2016 album, I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It.

The cover is a charity single aimed to raise funds for British organization War Child that gives aid to children affected by war worldwide.

Frontman Matt Healy gave the acoustic pop song an R&B synth vibe as the slow tempo, saxophone and drum sounds blend smoothly with his signature vocals being altered via auto-tune. 

“You think I'd leave your side, baby/ You know me better than that/ You think I'd leave you down when you're down on your knees," he sings. 

Matty said that the "By Your Side" by Sade has a slight similarity to the style of Kanye West, Bon Iver and Chance the Rapper, "When I was listening to it, I was listening to it with a real sense of modernity and thinking, 'Wow this is still really, really forward thinking.' So me and George [Daniel] couldn't help ourselves …the idea of it being for charity meant the sentiment of the song took on a whole different meaning and it felt kind of perfect."
