LAUV Apologizes For His New Video's Similarity To THE 1975's "Sincerity Is Scary"
Today, Lauv came through with another feel-good song titled "Tattoos Together" and a music video to match. The nearly four-minute clip was light and just pure fun—with the fast-rising singer-songwriter dancing and singing around a neighborhood and interacting with people he comes across.
And if it looked somehow familiar to you, it's probably because it has, as netizens have earlier pointed out, a striking resemblance to the music video for The 1975's "Sincerity is Scary" from 2018. Same location. Same grading. And almost the same story concept—including the start of both clips where Lauv and frontman Matty Healy get up from bed. Check it for yourself below.
Lauv immediately reached out to Matty after seeing the comments re: the visual for his new song. And to calm down music fans, the hitmaker posted screenshots of his conversation with the British vocalist via Twitter. The text message read "Hey man. I just put out a video for my new song and saw comments about similarities to the sincerity is scary video. I honestly hadn’t seen the video till now, but after seeing it im completely horrified and wanted to reach out and apologize directly before i said anything online. As somebody who’s genuinely a massive fan and who respects your artistry so much, please believe me when i say this was an honest mistake."
Matty responded coolly, saying "Lol Bro honest idgaf if anyone is giving you s–t just post this screenshot."
Ultimately, Lauv hopes the song and video made his fans smile and laugh. "That’s what matters the most to me in the end."
