Mental health advocates over social media wanted DZMM host Jobert Sucaldito to be held responsible over a suicide-related remark against Nadine Lustre while on-air last Monday, January 6. Some even went as far as to ask for Sucaldito's suspension or termination from the radio network.
Watch him play the victim card when this ht goes trending.— Nadine Lustre is my spirit animal (@jadinepurist) January 8, 2020
But No, Jobert, you totally deserve what we’re asking for. Nadine is not the only artist you tried to harm with your with your vicious words. If we let you go on air again, you’ll only harm more!#FireJobertSucaldito

I still see Jobert's tirade against Nadine on FB @gingreyes @DZMMTeleRadyo.— 𝓜𝓲𝓼𝓼 𝓓 💐 (@BeautyJunkie__) January 8, 2020
His apology reeks of insincerity.
Hold him accountable.
I work in HR and I know that this should merit a suspension at the very least. #FireJobertSucaldito
The nerve of Jobert to say, “Sana tumalon na lang,” (pertaining to Nadine) sa building— ً (@livelikepotter) January 7, 2020
I don’t care who the hell he think he is. End his fuckin’ career. Showbiz boomers like him isn’t welcome to the new decade. #SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert #ApologizeToNadine
Jobert, it's not Nadine's fault you constantly misinterpret her Instagram posts. And for Nadine to be the one to reach out to Ricky Lo? WHY ON EARTH DID HE NOT DO THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE TO VERIFY THEIR RELATIONSHIP STATUS, IDIOT? #SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert #ApologizeToNadine— Mac Turija (@macturijatweets) January 8, 2020
Moral censorship s/d be administered to Jobert Sucaldito & Ricky Lo for reckless journalism by misrepresenting facts, inappropriate attack against mental illness, abuse towards Lustre family & wanting to inflict harm to Nadine. There is no room for them in radio and publication.— eyabaebeee (@eyaerbin) January 8, 2020
The year is 2020 and Nadine Lustre may be wearing her first suit when she finally decides to submit a libel case and sue Jobert Sucaldito’s whack ass. Now that’s an OOTD I can’t wait to see lmaoooo #SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert— TOM ARVEEN (@tomflordeliza) January 7, 2020
Even siblings Kiana and Gab Valenciano, host Bianca Gonzales, news anchor Karen Davila, and director Antoinette Jadaone took to Twitter to defend Nadine and others who suffer from mental health problems, and slammed Sucaldito for making light of their struggles.
WAKE UP AND GROW UP. Suicide is not a joking matter or something to bring up passively for clout. I am stunned. How can someone be so ignorant and insensitive about this issue in this day and age?— Kiana 🌙 (@KianaVee) January 8, 2020
Thinking of all the people I have met who silently struggle with mental health & suicidal thoughts and then hearing someone so callously turn that battle into a joke just goes to show that there is still so much work to be done. We must educate ourselves to break the stigma.— Kiana 🌙 (@KianaVee) January 8, 2020

Making light of suicide and mental illness is not funny and should not be tolerated.— Bianca Gonzalez (@iamsuperbianca) January 8, 2020
WE NEED TO STOP JOKING ABOUT MENTAL ILLNESS— Tonette, Tonette (@tonetjadaone) January 8, 2020
I interviewed Nadine Lustre on #ANCHeadstart last year. She was brave enough to share about her period of depression & the crisis she went through. She is a smart, deep & passionate person. Jokes about mental health aren’t funny & should not be tolerated. #MentalHealthAwareness— Karen Davila (@iamkarendavila) January 8, 2020
On his late-night program "Showbuzz," Sucaldito called out the actress for supposedly disrespecting Ricky Lo with her savage clapback. At one point, Sucaldito encouraged Nadine to jump off the balcony of a building, in reference to a recent photo she shared on Instagram.
Sucaldito has since issued an apology to Nadine via a statement broadcast on DZMM. It read: "I would like to apologize to Ms. Nadine Lustre and to those who got bothered by that sa aspetong ito. I am also apologizing to my radio network DZMM for putting them in discomfort because of this."
Earlier today, ABS-CBN News head Ging Reyes also issued a statement, saying: “We in ABS-CBN News take the issue of mental health very seriously. This was even the subject of a recent documentary that was produced. We are investigating reports that DZMM host Jobert Sucaldito uttered inappropriate and insensitive comments regarding actress Nadine Lustre’s state of mental health. Our journalists and other members of our team are accountable for their on-air statements.”
Just two months ago, the radio host was also involved in another issue involving singer Morissette Amon.
