Follow your dreams, they said. But do you ever just doubt yourself while doing so and wonder, "Will I turn out fine?" It happens a lot to anyone, even to some of the biggest artists we aspire to be like. That's what working towards achieving goal is all about which is something that London-based alternative pop duo Oh Wonder can vouch for.

It took Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West one single release per month in 2014 to actually break into the industry and, fortunately, succeed in picking up global attention including the Philippines. But according to the pair of songwriters, none of the charts and gold plaques take away the challenge of keeping up with the pace of their musical career. Still, it doesn't mean they will stop.

Oh Wonder's journey can indeed teach us a lot of things, and here are some of our biggest takeaways especially for young aspiring artists like them:

Appreciate every moment.

Good and bad days may come but be it the latter, Anthony and Josephine believe every day is worth celebrating. It's easy for us to get complacent when the flow of career is going well and easy to give up when it gets crazy. Well, don't. "Do not take things for granted and enjoy life because we only have one life, right?"

Trust your team.

Musicians don't work alone. For Oh Wonder, besides having each other's vision to consider, they also have a whole bigger team behind them to negotiate it. This is when synergy should be taken seriously. "We don't want to be control freaks," Anthony said adding the importance of "trusting everyone around us, knowing that they're gonna help us as much as we could help ourselves."

Keep some things to yourself.

Build boundaries between you and the public eye. Oh Wonder knows being on social media is a given for personalities like them. But their advice: Remain sane and preserve something for yourself. "To give yourself over to anybody entirely in any scenario is a little bit dangerous. It's also really important for your mental health to have boundaries of what's appropriate to share and what is not."

Focus on your art.

Easier said than done but yes you can make the cut "as long as you make the focus your art, right?" The feeling of discontentment, envy, and unworthiness will haunt you if you fail to do so. If one day you see someone you deem doing better than you, stop right there. Don't move and even try to compare yourself to them. Remember that no two people are the same just as two people shine on two different center stages.

Practice.

To aspiring artists, straight from Josephine: "Do as much as you can on your own. Get really good at lots of things if you can. Practice writing songs, practice your singing, practice making a music video on your phone. Just try and expose yourself to many creative outlets because they will feed in to each other." Nuff said.

How far can they go? Anthony and Josephine have no clue but there's one thing they're sure of: they will continue to do what they want. People may like the music they put out or maybe they won't, but they'll get by just fine since they believe in themselves—a job that no one else can do better than them. The same thing goes to you. In Oh Wonder's words: No one else can wear your crown.
