DAVEY LANGIT Drops New Song "Oryang" Ahead Of Andres Bonifacio Day
Davey Langit takes inspiration from the viral fictional love letter from the Filipino revolutionary leader and patriot Andres Bonifacio to his wife Gregoria de Jesus for his latest single "Oryang".
The said fictional letter, written by playwright Eljay Castro Deldoc, was originally published on MAGHIMAGSIK: Mga Tula, Sulatin at Larawan ng Pakikibaka ni Andres Bonifacio at ng Kabataang Makabayan, a literary book released by the College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP) and Anakbayan to commemorate the leader of the Katipunan’s 150th birthday last 2015.
And just in time for Andres Bonifacio Day on November 30, the singer-songwriter reimagines Deldoc's masterpiece by lyrically capturing its essence in adept fashion and giving it a folk kundiman-esque flair. Give "Oryang" a listen below.
Meanwhile, Davey opened up about the struggle of having his music reach a wider audience in an Instagram post, how he almost considered starting a vlog which is so not who he is. In the end, he was reminded of his desire to "write songs and tell stories." He promised, "Susulat pa ako ng susulat ng kanta. Maglalabas ng maglalabas ng bagong materyal para sa inyo. As often as I can this coming year. Mas maraming collaborations, mas maraming kanta kong hopefully gustong kantahin ng ibang kapwa ko artists."
