New Song Hypes Up UST Growling Tigers Ahead of Do-Or-Die Game Against UP Fighting Maroons
Sports analyst Enzo Flojo called the UST Growling Tigers a "nightmare" for the UP Fighting Maroons who lost their twice-to-beat advantage after a 20-point rout last Sunday.
Of course, the convincing victory riled up the España faithful, including rising DJ-producer Himig Borhuh, heading into the do-or-die game this afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena. A day before tip-off, the fifth year student from the UST Conservatory of Music introduced a brand new hype track titled "Watawat" via UST Tiger TV.
Borhuh, also a member of neophyte band Purples n' Oranges under MIDA$ Records, told MYX that he produced the beat, recorded the vocals, and finalized the one-minute track in less than two days. Challenged to do something different from "the usual love or flex songs", the 23-year-old artist came up with the fight song to pump up Thomasian athletes.
In particular, the song hints at the Tigers' hunger and determination to bring the elusive UAAP men's basketball crown back to España. It opens with the lines, "Sa wakas apoy sa aming puso sumiklab na / Di na mapigilan mga Tigreng naka-amba / Di na hihinto inipong pwersa / Mata sa pangarap / Matagal nang inaasam" and briefly mentions big guy and Season 82 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Soulemane Chabi Yo.
Asked if he plans to drop names of other key players in the Tigers’ title run, Borhuh chose to keep details under wraps on a forthcoming full version of the track. But he did reveal his plans to get Thomasian rappers Chelly and Schumi, as well as Al James and Migo Senieres, on board the extended one. Whether the Tigers win the championship or not, he promised to release "Watawat" on digital streaming platforms soon.
