ROBERT PATTINSON Was "F*cking Furious" Over Leaked Batman Casting Reports
Robert Pattinson's casting as the next Batman still has the entire geek and comic book community torn.
Robert Pattinson couldn’t stop Googling himself. In mid-May, the 33-year-old actor found himself obsessively refreshing his phone on a flight from Los Angeles to the south of France. He was headed to the #CannesFilmFestival for the world premiere of his new movie, #TheLighthouse (co-starring Willem Dafoe), just days before he was set to start shooting the next Christopher Nolan film, #Tenet. But someone had tipped off the press about another top-secret project, one the entire world was now reporting on: Pattinson had been cast as the next Batman. In this week's Variety cover story, R-Patz talks becoming #Batman and why #TheLighthouse is just weird enough. Link in bio. (📸: @matthewbrookesphoto)
Now in his interview with Variety, the Twilight star finally broke his silence about landing the role and the fan backlash that came with it.
Robert Pattinson loves the movie-making business. “There’s something about people who work in the film industry — they very much wear their heart and dreams on their sleeve. There’s so much desire falling out of them. I think people in other jobs, their dreams aren’t valued as highly. Also, there’s nowhere to put them.” He says that if he’s in an Uber and a driver starts to pitch him a movie idea, he doesn’t shudder like other actors would. “I’m so, so into it,” Pattinson says. “I don’t want to be in L.A. to talk about f—ing restaurant reservations. I want to be in L.A. because I love movies.” (📸: @matthewbrookesphoto)
Robert said he was "f*cking furious" when premature reports first surfaced as he felt it could've affected his chances of actually snagging the coveted role. "When that thing leaked, I was f*cking furious. Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing."
"It was terrifying. I was like, ‘Oh fuck. Does that screw me because they are so intent on secrecy?" he added.
Despite the mixed reception, the producers of the film including director Matt Reeves are confident #Battinson will give the role "justice" (no pun intended). The Batman is expected to start production soon.
