Himig Handog 2019 Is Set To Touch And Win Hearts
The Top 12 entries in this year’s Himig Handog songwriting competition reflect each and every Filipino’s struggle and hope when it comes to love. In Star Music head Roxy Liquigan’s own words, the competition is ready to touch and win hearts once again as hope and love triumph in each lyrical masterpiece.
From almost 4,000 entries, Himig Handog chose 12 best original songs from different songwriters, now produced and brought to life by a standout roster of interpreters.
Both Daniel Padilla and Moira Dela Torre are back in this year’s competition with their collaboration “Mabagal” written by Simon Tañedo.
Janella Salvador is back for the fourth time as an interpreter, singing “Nung Tayo Pa” of Rex Torremoro and Elmar Jann Bolaño.
Idol Philippines contestant Vanya Castor interpreted “Paano Ba” which was penned by Richannne Charms Jacinto. Another former Idol contender Alekzandra Nicolle Quitalig will perform her own composition “Alaala” while Davao-based singer-songwriter Eamarie Gilayo will likewise interpret her own song "Ikaw at Linggo."
Actress, singer and vlogger Alex Gonzaga will sing the composition of Michael Angelo "Aikee" Aplacador titled “Please Lang.”
Acoustic balladeer TJ Monterde interprets “Panandalian” composed by Jerome Arcangel and Cee Jay Del Rosario. According to TJ, it's a whole new challenge to sing a song that he didn’t write.
Former X Factor Philippines contender Joan Da will interpret her song with LJ Manzano while singer-songwriter Davey Langit is back in the competition—this time as an interpreter of “Simula ng Dulo” which he co-wrote with Therese Marie Villarante. Fun fact: they are a real life couple dealing with a long-distance relationship since Davey lives in Quezon while Therese resides in Cebu.
Meanwhile, “Isa Pang Ikaw”, composed by Joseph Ponce is performed by former X Factor Australia contestant Justin Vasquez. Tawag Ng Tanghalan champion Janine Berdin is proud to have a fresh alternative song, thanks to Noah Zuniga’s composition “Sa’yong Mundo”
MYX Music Awards 2019 New Artist Of The Year I Belong To The Zoo is also part of this year’s competition as the interpreter of Ferdinand Aragon’s song “Ingat”.
Over the years, the songs produced in Himig Handog have made a mark on the entertainment scene. True to its mission, ABS-CBN’s songwriting competition has continuously brought out the best of Original Pilipino Music by searching for outstanding musical compositions from all over the world.
