JAMES CAMERON Applauds 'Endgame' For Surpassing 'Avatar' Record
After a tough battle, the Marvel Studios blockbuster Avengers: Endgame finally snapped Avatar's record as the highest-grossing movie of all time. The James Cameron film enjoyed a 10-year reign atop the box office and now it's time to pass the throne to the Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Cameron graciously accepted defeat and congratulated everyone at Marvel for the impressive feat. Taking to Avatar's official social media handles, the director said: "Congratulations to Avengers Endgame on becoming the new box office king". As of Sunday, Endgame earned a whopping $2.79 billion dollars worldwide as it approaches the end of its theatrical run. Avatar is still a close second with $2.7897 billion under its belt.
Previously, Cameron also applauded the Marvel crew for successfully sinking his other film Titanic's own box office record in quick fashion. Some critics thought it was already impossible for Endgame to dethrone the 2009 sci-fi fantasy film but the special re-release of the film proved that fans are willing to do "whatever it takes" to take Avatar down.
