A ‘Gossip Girl’ Reboot Is Officially Happening
Haven't you heard? Gossip Girlis officially getting a reboot!
New streaming service HBO Max will be the home of a 10-episode update of the hit teen drama, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter. The 2019 version will follow a new generation of New York teen socialites who found themselves under the Gossip Girl radar. But this time around, the show will "address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed" eight years after the original series ended.
Showrunner Joshua Zafran will return to write and executive produce the reboot. But he refused to share more details about the plot or whether the original characters will reprise their role or make a cameo.
Arguably the most talked-about show during its time, Gossip Girl ran for six seasons from 2007 to 2012. It catapulted Leighton Meester (who played Blair Waldorf), Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen), Penn Badgley (Dan Humphrey), Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald), and Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass) to worldwide stardom.
