"Stop Kiss" Returns To Philippine Stage After 16 Years!
Love wins this July as the play Stop Kiss returns to the Philippine stage after 16 years!
An original story by American playwright Diana Son, Stop Kiss is about two women - Callie and Sara - who find themselves falling in love with each other but experience violent hate after sharing a kiss.
It will feature the same lead actresses from the 2003 version but the roles will be interchanged this time: Missy Maramara will play Callie instead while Jenny Jamora will now be Sara. Both believe in the importance of telling this story to the Filipino audience again.
"Women, lesbians, women with less representation - their stories are as important if not even more pressing," Missy said. "There's so much violence happening that repress their love and I think a story like this will give them hope, and educate those people who don't understand the situation and to see that there's actually nothing wrong with (same sex) love and they're just a society that needs to feel safe [too]."
Jenny added, "There's a lot of division right now but it's important to know that we can reclaim that. If we can find our love for each other as human beings, I think we'll be able to reclaim the love for our nation, for each other, and be empathetic people who will help each other rather than hurt each other."
Stop Kiss 2019 takes a new direction under Aliw Award winner Ed Lacson, Jr. The cast also includes Tarek El Tayech, Gabe Mercado, Robbie Guevara, Jay Valencia-Glorioso and J-Mee Katanyag.
Take pride in who you are and who you want to love during its 8-show run from July 12 to 14 and July 19 to 21 at the Power Mac Center, Circuit Makati. Tickets are now available HERE.
