James Reid has withdrawn from the upcoming Pedro Penduko film where he was set to play the role of the titular Pinoy folk superhero. Viva Films released a statement on May 31st, citing "spinal injuries" as the reason behind the singer-actor's decision to back out.

"Viva Films regretfully announces that it has accepted the withdrawal of James Reid from the movie Pedro Penduko for medical reasons," the statement read.

"James has spinal injuries and the film Pedro Penduko involves intensive training and major stunts. His regular therapy and treatment prohibit him to train hard or perform for the rigid requirements."

The film outfit then went on to thank James for his dedication and commitment to the project and wished him a speedy recovery.

The company has also appeased brokenhearted fans with some good news. James will instead focus on a reunion movie with girlfriend Nadine Lustre for a remake of the Korean horror romantic comedy film Spellbound.
