JHENÉ AIKO's New Song Speaks To The Broken-Hearted
Raise your hand if Jhené Aiko has never failed to pinch your heart with the balanced mixture of her soothing vocals and agonizing lyrics. The R&B hitmaker has us grasping for air yet again with the release of her newest single "Triggered (Freestyle)" and a simple video to accompany it.
And if you pay close attention to the lyrics, you'd realize that Jhené may have put into words how she felt after her breakup with Big Sean. "Go figure / You were the trigger / You brought me to an obstructed view / When you knew the picture was bigger / Who am I kiddin’? / Knew from the beginning / You’d ruin everything, you do it every time / You are my enemy, you are no friend of mine, muh****a,” she begins.
She also shed light on her mental state while writing the song in a note posted on her socials. "One night I was so deep in my feelings, I was afraid of what I might do," she wrote.
She continued, "I didn't want to revert to the same bad habits that have set me back time and time again. I realized that instead of running away from my emotions... I needed to sit with them, express myself and say whatever came to mind. It was healing to say the least... and now I feel a bit more free."
Last April, Jhené left a comment on her former lover's post paying tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle. "You are so special. To me. To the world," she wrote. "While we're both still on this planet I just want to say... I love you beyond measure. Even tho I get big mad and u trigger the fuck out of me. U make me feel. And I appreciate that."
She concluded her message by saying, "I love you from this life to the next and all the other lives we've known each other before. Imma always talk my shit. But Imma always have ur back." Read her full message below.
