Here's Why SANDIWA Will Be Your Next OPM Obsession
Ivory Music recently added up-and-comers Sandiwa to their already impressive band roster and the group is united with one common goal: to make waves in the local music scene and quite honestly, they deserve to be put on your playlist pronto!
The alternative rock crew composed of members Yeoj Rivera, Samuel Mopal, Jeremiah Torda, Harold Tabuno and Alex Rale held a successful single launch last April 10 at Historia Boutique Bar and Restaurant which was fronted by fellow Ivory Music bands Sons of NOA and Room For Cielo and other surprise guests.
Sandiwa dished out a mix of good vibes inducing and heartwrenching original songs which are all LSS worthy. Their special set also featured guest performances by folk legend Joey Ayala, Cookie Chua, Shanti Dope and Gloc 9 whose wife manages the band.
We caught up with the five-piece alternative rock outfit who told us more about their humble beginnings and future plans.
According to vocalist Yeoj, the band was formed in 2017 but it didn't take them that long to get the attention of music fans. Now that they're being handled by Thea "Mrs. 9" Pollisco (who also manages Gloc 9, JKris and Shanti Dope), we know for sure that they are in good hands.
The name "Sandiwa" was actually taken from an old dictionary term which means "unity of purpose". And for them, that purpose is music. The band describes their overall sound as "cinematic", telling MYX that they'd love for their songs to be used in films.
The members also revealed that they've decided to quit their respective day jobs to focus solely on their craft. It's a really bold move which shows us that the boys truly mean business. As of now, they're busy recording for their upcoming EP which will be released some time this year.
Their debut effort "Gunita" written by Yeoj talks about the pain of reliving a love that was once yours. "Kapag napakinggan mo 'to, iisipin mo yung nakaraan mo tapos igu-gunita mo yung masasayang alala niyo na 'di mo na pwedeng makamtan ngayon kasi wala nang chance maging kayo ulit." Ouch!
