Street performances or "busking" is nothing new in some parts of the globe but it's slowly becoming the hottest trend in the local gig scene right now.

Buskers can now be seen almost everywhere - from the MRT to BGC! Last February, we featured singer Martin Riggs' surprise street gig with fellow O/C Records artist UNIQUE.

More and more artists, even seasoned acts, are also trying it out. Honestly, it's a great idea especially for those who are just starting out. Here are a few reasons why we think young aspiring musicians should give busking a try!

It builds your confidence. More than your skills and talent, it's also important to have a great amount of confidence (not too much, of course) if you plan to pursue a career in music. Busking is a training ground of sorts for aspiring musicians and it's a great way to start.

It's pretty convenient. The art of busking can be done almost anywhere – outside school, in front of a store, at the park, and pretty much wherever you please. All you need is your trusty instrument, your material and a little bit of guts, of course.

It's quite liberating. Performing in front of people who actually know you (and will judge you) is probably more intimidating. The beauty of busking is it gives you a sense of freedom and you can just simply be yourself. So go out there, play and perform your heart out.

It's an intimate experience. It's also a great place to meet new friends and co-musicians. A win-win situation for sure.

It's the perfect avenue for your music to be heard. Let's face it, who doesn't want their original compositions to be heard by tens and thousands of people. Some try their luck by joining singing/songwriting competitions, while others busk and dare we say, WHY NOT? It's time to let that cat out of the bag!
