MATTY HEALY On Paid Meet And Greets: "Meet Your Fans Or Don't"
Let's be honest, we've all had our fair share of fan boy/fan girl moments. We know the stuggle and the lengths some fans will actually go to just to get an interaction with their idols - even if it means spending a fortune just to have that one special moment.
The 1975 frontman Matty Healy had something to say about artists and promoters who charge for meet and greets and frankly, we're all behind him on this one!
The "Sincerity Is Scary" singer voiced out his opinions on Twitter with a lengthy thread. He said, "Who came up with payed meet and greets? Did they think 'Surely there must be something else we can monetise........OH! Human connection!! They'll eat that up!'"

MEET YOUR FANS OR DON'T
DON'T ONLY MEET THEM IF YOU'RE GETTING PAYED HONESTLY WHAT ARE YOU DOING
He added, "MEET YOUR FANS OR DON'T. DON'T ONLY MEET THEM IF YOU'RE GETTING PAID HONESTLY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
He later responded to a fan who justified paid meet and greets, saying it would benefit up-and-coming acts. Matty said, "You can't be big enough for people to want to pay to meet you whilst not being big enough to pay for touring."
You can't be big enough for people to want to pay to meet you whilst not being big enough to pay for touring. Its a paradoxical excuse for making MUSIC EXLCUISVE.— matty (@Truman_Black) March 27, 2019
"Rich kids, you line up on the left. Poor kids, just fuck off' https://t.co/FcWc9VE5Vh
The singer also went on to say that part of the problem is the record labels "normalizing" paid fan events.
I think the problem is that a lot of artists don't understand how brutal it is, because MAJOR LABELS have normalised it. So MAJOR LABELS should change it. They should make all fans pay in cash - directly to the artist. They should literally hand over the $200. Would soon stop x https://t.co/bHhnUo5SvJ— matty (@Truman_Black) March 27, 2019
