JARED LETO Shares First Set Photo From Sony's Spider-Man Spinoff 'Morbius'
Looks like Sony Pictures is really determined to build their own Spider-Man universe without the web-slinging hero himself. After Venom dominated the box office last October, Sony is now working on another spinoff series. This time, it's main focus will be Morbius, the Living Vampire who will be played by actor/rockstar Jared Leto.
Michael Morbius is a biochemist whose life was changed after a failed experiment which intended to cure his blood disorder gave him vampiric abilities. The character made his debut in Amazing Spider-Man #101 in October 1971 and for longtime fans of the comic book series, it's a dream come true to see a different character from Spidey's rogues gallery finally be brought to life on the big screen.
Before landing the role, the 30 Seconds To Mars frontman was slated to film a solo Joker spinoff movie, but according to some reports, the idea has already been canned. It's also still unclear if he'll be part of James Gunn's Suicide Squad reboot after it was confirmed that Margot Robbie will return for the franchise. If in case it happens, Jared will be the only actor to be actively part of both the Marvel and DC film universes.
Morbius is set for release in 2021.
