Is GLOC-9 Saying Farewell To Rap?
At first listen, "Maleta" seems like your typical Gloc-9 song. The great Pinoy wordsmith has always been a mastermind in crafting stirring socio-political verses, but Gloc-9 takes on a more personal approach for his latest single.
Apparently, "Maleta" is his farewell song to rap.
But don't go into panic mode just yet! Gloc-9 is not packing his bags yet and retiring! The rapper said the new track is just in preparation for when the time comes for him to bid farewell to the music industry, and ultimately, rap music. "Parang trineat ko lang yung song na parang way para makausap ko yung rap," he told MYX in an exclusive interview. "Pero at the same time, yung laman ng kanta sinasabi ko pa din na kahit kailangan ko nang magpaalam eh mahal ko pa din siya."
Gloc-9 also explained how the collaboration with Julie Anne San Jose—who he has already worked with on numerous occasions, but not in a new song together until now—came to be. "Yung time na sinusulat ko yung song, nabalitaan ko na nag-sign din sa Universal Records si Julie Anne. Sabi ko, 'Ayun, ayos. Pwedeng pwede si Julie Anne dun sa song.'"
As for a music video? Fans need not wait long as the two biggest names in OPM will roll out the accompanying visuals for their collaboration "soon". Until then, listen to it below.
