LOOK: SPICE GIRLS' Mel B Wins Restraining Order Against Husband
Spice Girls member Melanie ‘Mel B’ Brown won a temporary restraining order and sole custody of her daughters after filing court papers claiming that her estranged husband Stephen Belafonte had emotionally and physically abused her for much of their 10-year marriage.
According to a TMZ report, the 41-year old British singer who was known as 'Scary Spice' stated that she suffered from her husband’s violence over the years.
Mel B detailed unfortunate instances that transpired with Belafonte including an incident back in 2007 where she claimed to have been slammed onto the floor and choked by her husband on the night of her Dancing with the Stars finale show. She also stated that she was punched in the face in July 2012, making her lip split and swell after a taping for X-Factor Australia. She also allegedly received threats from her husband that he would release sex tapes of them in order to destroy her career.
Lawyers obtained a restraining order Monday, forcing Stephen to stay away from Mel and her kids and ordering him to leave the family home. The singer already filed for divorce last month in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences.
Netizens and supporters on social media have sent love and sympathy to the singer.
