Fil-Am Artist H.E.R. Dedicates Grammy Win To Her Family
The 61st Grammy Awards was not without controversy. Still, it was a groundbreaking celebration for women in the music industry.
The prestigious awards ceremony recorded an 82 percent increase in number of female winners. In 2018, only 17 of the 86 awards were given to female artists or female-led bands. This year, 31 out of the 84 awards were handed to women—among them were Kacey Musgraves, Cardi B, Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, and of course, Pinoy pride H.E.R.
The Filipino-American singer, whose real name is Gabi Wilson, gave her parents a shoutout during her acceptance speech for winning the Best R&B album award for her self-titled EP. "Mom, Dad, this is for all the sacrifices you've made for me. And thank you for embracing my talent and who I am since I was a little girl," she said.
She also took to social media to dedicate the win to her family: "The moment I shared with my family when they made the announcement was so special... Mom, Dad and Lil Sis, I do this for you!!!!!!"

H.E.R. also won Best R&B performance for "Best Part"—her hit collaboration with Daniel Caesar.
