ED SHEERAN Writes 3 Songs For WESTLIFE's 2019 Album Because He's A Big Fan!
The lovable lads of Westlife are back to colour our worlds with their first single after eight years—"Hello My Love"—which was co-written by Ed Sheeran!
VJ Ai dela Cruz recently flew to Singapore for a MYXclusive interview with Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, and Mark Feehily who, after disbanding in 2012, explained how their much-awaited reunion happened and what their "big fan" Ed's role was in their decision.
"Myself and Shane had dinner with our wives in Christmas two years ago and we just got to talking about Westlife and the history, and some of the memories... We both probably came away from that going, 'I wonder when we'll ever do it again,'" Kian started his story.
But according to the The Voice of Ireland coach, it was only a year later that "the stars aligned" and they had their first group meeting in Nicky's house to talk about the possibility of doing Westlife again.
Coincidentally, they got word that Steve Mac—writer and producer of most of the Irish band's earlier hits like "Swear It Again" and "World Of Our Own"—has finished writing new Westlife songs with Ed Sheeran, whom he has previously collaborated with for the 2017 most-streamed, best-selling, and Grammy-winning song, "Shape Of You."
“We found out that Ed Sheeran had written some Westlife songs without even knowing that Westlife were talking about getting back together because he loved Westlife when he was a little boy. So it was kind of like all these things kind of happened and the stars aligned, as we would say,” Kian explained.
Mark further shared that "Hello My Love" (which you can check out here) was among the first three songs they've recorded for their upcoming album—all of which were written by Steve and Ed, who revealed that he actually learned how to play the guitar to Westlife's first greatest-hits album Unbreakable.
