Mary Poppins is about to make things magical again with the help of an Academy Award nominee at the helm of its sequel, Mary Poppins Returns. The follow-up to the highly successful 1964 American musical film is fittingly directed by Rob Marshall - the man behind the Academy Award Best Picture winner, Chicago.
"I have to be honest. I felt that pressure but it was mostly out of love for the first film," he told Donny Pangilinan during an interview. "I love the first film so much, it means so much to me. I really want to pay a great homage to that, and retain that beautiful spirit and elements, at the same time create something very new."
Rob continued, "But that was the challenge, all of us did it together. I felt like everyone has the first movie in their blood somewhere and if you did not, it was like you're not part of the experience. We are not trying to reimagine it but sort of like extend the time 54 years later."
The director, who was also behind the films Into The Woods and Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, praised Donny towards the end of the interview. "You know why you're so good? (It's because) you listen." he said. "That's a rare quality."
