"GAY IS NOT AN INSULT," the spoken word artist tweeted. "I mean a lot of people still use it as an insult and I had to tweet that to address e v e r y o n e who still do."

The Hows Of Us star opened up about his own struggle to accept the word "gay" as just a label rather than a form of mockery. "I used to hate the word 'gay' growing up. It was often thrown at me with a laughter that mocked. It took me years to learn to wear it like a badge of honor. I didn't know better when I was 15. That's why I saw @Espanto2001's tweet it as a teachable moment."

"I grew up in a world of boys telling/showing me how to behave lest I'd be shunned. I was conditioned to react defensively because accepting the label meant more mockery, losing friends, solitude. I'm sad that people still throw the word around like a piece of shit to dodge," he continued.

He encourages both LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ to educate and call out those who still use it to insult.
