"High School Musical" TV Series Finds New Lead Star
Everybody quieeeet! The upcoming TV series adaptation of High School Musical has found its "Troy Bolton"!
Meet Joshua Bassett, the newest addition to the Wildcats. The 17-year-old actor will star as the male lead of the project based on the original Disney movie franchise. But nope, he won't take the name of Zac Efron's character and instead will be called "Ricky" - a high school junior who's bent on winning his ex-girlfriend Nini back by auditioning to star opposite her in the school's theater production.
Joshua has already been part of numerous stage musicals and commercials, and plays a recurring role in Disney Channel's Stuck In The Middle. “As someone whose childhood was shaped by the cultural phenomenon that is ‘High School Musical,’ I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to tell this story,” he said in a Deadline report. “Go Wildcats!”
High School Musical: The Musical will be a 10-episode docu-style series and will feature new renditions of the HSM soundtrack and tons of original ones. It's set to launch 2019 via Disney's upcoming streaming service.
