‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Is Getting A Live-Action Remake On Netflix
It was only a matter of time before Netflix adapts a live-action “reimagined” series based on Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The animated series' original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will be returning as showrunners and executive producers of the new Netflix show. In a joint statement, the two said: "We're thrilled for the opportunity to helm this live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. We can't wait to realize Aang's world as cinematically as we always imagined it to be, and with a culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast."
Avatar: The Last Airbender chronicles the adventures of Aang—the last airbender capable of manipulating the four elements (water, fire, earth, and air) through martial arts—and his friends, Katara and Sokka. Aang and his crew is tasked to defeat the Fire Nation and restore balance to the world.
The upcoming live-action adaptation will start production in 2019. For now, here's the concept art of Aang and his loyal sky bison Appa:
