Comedy programs such as Saturday Night Live and Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel were among the night's biggest winners, scoring 8 Emmy awards each. SNL won "Outstanding Variety Sketch Series" for the second straight year while The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel took home the award for "Outstanding Comedy Series".

But it was hit fantasy series Game of Thrones that ended up being the night's runaway winner, taking home a total of 9 Emmy trophies! The cast and crew made up for their absence at last year's ceremony and accepted the award for "Outstanding Drama Series".
