In the latest episode of Wander Jam with Migz, Migz Haleco made his way to Los Baños, Laguna where OPM icon, Ebe Dancel, announced that he will be taking an indefinite break from doing live shows.
“I’ve decided to stop doing public performances,” he said. “Unless I really, really feel like it. And right now, I really, really don’t feel like it.” He further explained that he did not want to disrespect the stage, as music was what gave him the life he has now. He says that he didn't want to release an official statement, and expressed his gratitude to Migz and the rest of the One Music PH team for speaking to him. And with obvious sadness, Ebe ended his statement by saying “I’m tired.”
Ebe was clinically diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder a few years ago, which made it difficult for him to cope when he had to perform in front of large crowds. He came to realize that it was time to stop performing when he suffered from a panic attack during his last concert, “Iisa,” which was a collaboration between Johnoy Danao, Bullet Dumas, and himself, more popularly known as 3D.
Despite the sad nature of this announcement, Ebe shared very positive insight on his time in the spotlight, as Migz asked him what his best memories were throughout his musical journey. Ebe mentioned that one of the fondest memories he had was when his former band, Sugarfree, launched their first album.
Another moment Ebe Dancel mentioned was the digital concert by One Music PH called “Atin Ang Gabi.” He said that that particular concert was a realization of a dream. “It went so perfectly and everything sounded so beautifully—it was at that na sinabi ko, ‘Ito na ‘yon. I can see the finishline.’”
The last unforgettable moment for Ebe was when he played a show in Dubai, where over 5,000 people sang along to his songs; he thought that those things only happen in the Philippines, which made him futher appreciate the power of music.
After sharing his favorite memories with Migz, the two musicians then jammed to one of Ebe’s biggest hits, “Tulog Na.”
