ROSS BUTLER Could Have Starred In 'Crazy Rich Asians'?
Bet you didn't know our current favorite 13 Reasons Why star Ross Butler auditioned for the lead role in the hugely anticipated film Crazy Rich Asians? Crazy, right?
In a past interview with Vulture, the 28-year-old actor revealed that he actually read for the role of the leading male character, Nick Young, for the big screen adaptation of Kevin Kwan's well-loved novel of the same name.
"I think I was just too young," he said. "I mean, I was still playing a teenager so I can’t be a professor at a college. I don’t think I was anywhere close [to being cast] because I was still playing a 16-year-old! But I figured I’d read for it anyway and see what happens."
He added, "I can’t wait for that to come out though. It’s gonna show people that there is a culture that wants to see this type of story."
Despite not being cast, Ross has given his all-out support for the rom-com. "Finally a movie that made me feel badass, funny, and sophisticated while staying true to Asian culture. Even if you aren't Asian, you will find yourself in these characters," he wrote on Instagram after watching the film.
Crazy Rich Asians premieres in local theaters on August 22.
