The CW's "Arrowverse" is set to become an even bigger force. Spawning hit shows such as The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, the U.S. network just announced that they have cast Orange Is The New Black and The Meg star Ruby Rose to play Batwoman in the upcoming crossover.

The openly gay star seems like the perfect choice for the role of Kate Kane/Batwoman who is widely considered as the first lesbian superhero in comics. The actress expressed her excitement over the project via Instagram.

Fans on the other hand had mixed reactions about the casting choice - some were thrilled while others were skeptical.

Batwoman was first introduced in 1956 but it wasn't until 2006 that the character's origin took a different turn. She was reinvented and reintroduced as an openly gay Jewish woman who has a military background, making her a formidable ally to the caped crusader.

Batwoman is set to join Flash, The Green Arrow, Supergirl and others in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover this December.
